Kinja'd!!!

My partner and I finally found a decent house and closed on it. I’m happy with the house, but i am in love with the massive (for the area) garage.

Kinja'd!!!

My 18+ft wagon fits with plenty of room to spare.

Kinja'd!!!

We have a lot of fiddly work needed before move-in, so every evening and weekend is being poured into it right now. But it is exactly the setup we wanted, so I'm happy to do the work.

Very nice! I am slowly on the hunt for a home myself....still living at home, but have been saving for years...don’t want to end up with an apartment and through the money away into that which I can’t get any value back from...

That garage is epic...

It can vary wildly in RI. I’m just outside providence and they run 15 0k-300k for single family houses in this area. Most of the ones on the lower side are older smaller houses (like this one).

I’ve had this hairstyle for 20 years. It has never been cool. I am well aware of this. :)

Congratulations! Looks like a nice place, and the garage is awesome!!!

B uying a house is such a PITA, glad you survived the process ! It s well worth the effort, though . Now, what I suggest to all new home owners: buy a cot and setup camp in your nearest Home Depot/Lowes/local hardware shop. You will be spending a lot of time there, probably as much or more than in your house .

Also, be prepared to fix something semi-major soon. For us, it was the water heater less than 60 days after we closed. Have fun!

Exciting!!! Congrats - we sold ours in March, currently enjoying the apartment life. The house hunt is already back on though. It’s a process that is for sure

Oh, they have already gotten a couple grand in the last week.

I’m currently replacing 3 of 4 sinks in the house and the sewer plumbing for the last 1 as all of them were leaking at time of purchase. And "update every wire in the house" is in the longer term plan...

;)

But seriously, congrats! I’m lucky to live somewhere where this much garage is an option and that still is a rather large garage for the most part.

If you have the time, try and get any work needed done before moving in, it is so much easier that way.

Mechanically speaking, as far as I can tell hair has a limited number of purposes. Preventing sunburn, providing a stall area for air passing over the head, and diverting sweat from the scalp from diving into the eyes. Any haircut whatsoever that does that without secondary issues (manbun snagging on things, ultra-long hair pulling at the roots, etc.) is a hair arrangement that does its job.

Which is to say your hair is the studebaker pickup of hair. Highly functional, but aberrant appearance and decidedly odd. :D

Out of curiosity, why do you want to update every wire in the house?

It is massively out of date. It is all 2-wire with no ground and some is still knob & tube (early 1900s house). So i need to run proper 3-wire to replace it.

Can you get away with leaving k&t in low load areas like lighting circuits and bedrooms?

Ouch, that retrofit won’t be fun, but we’ll worth it. Plaster walls then? That complicates things a bit too.

But congrats on finding a house to suit you. We finally finished the last major project on ours from moving in back in January. We’ve been hemorrhaging cash since we purchased in October of last year.   It we knew it going in, so wasn’t unplanned.  But it feels good to put a pin in the majors for now.  Yay.  Hopefully you can get through your upgrades quicker than it took us.  It’s fun putting time and effort into something you plan to keep for a long time.

Sadly most insurance companies wet themselves in terror at the idea of k&t in a house. So it all has to come out.

Plaster walls with 70s paneling over it. For maximum “fun”.

Right now money is tight til i sell my old house. Sometime in the next 5-ish years we’re going to dormer most of the second floor, which involves redoing ever room up there basically from the studs out. At that time we’ll be redoing both bathrooms completely and putting a new kitchen in the inlaw apt upstairs. So right now we’re doing a lot of “long term temporary” upgrades (painting, new lights, bathroom vanities) to make the house nice to be in until we get to that major work.

Sounds like a fun time coming up.  Glad you guys found something you like and want to work on.  It’s a lot of fun to make it your own.  Good luck on the sale of your old house.
